Abstract

An investigation was carried on hybrid seed production in tomato during kharif at Main Agricultural Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to study the effect of crossing ratio and pollination time on fruit yield (1502.98 g/plant) fruit set (57.15%), seed yield and quality parameters like seed weight per fruit (0.442 g), number of seeds per fruit (84.13 g), 1000 seed weight (4.56 g), seed weight per plant (8.39 g), germination (89.08%), field emergence (82.83%), root length (7.29 cm), shoot length (9.63 cm), seedling dry weight (26.49 mg) and seedling vigour index (1511) were significantly higher when pollination done 10 to 11 am with crossing ratio of 4:1 female to male ratio as compared to other combinations.
