S.G. Parameswarappa, Kumar D. Lamani

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during  the rabi seasons of 1999-2000 and  2000 -2001 on medium black soils at Agricultural Research Station, Baihongal to identify  promising Bengalgram cultivars for the Northern Transitional zone of Karnataka state. Significantly higher yields were recorded with the cultivar GBS-963 (1022 kg/ha) to the extent of 37 per cent over the standard check Annigeri-1 (644 kg/ha). Cultivar  GBS-963 also recorded highest test weight of 25.2 g/100 seed than the checks Annigeri-1 (21.6 g/100 seed) and Annigeri-2 ( 23.8 g/100) seed). Thus, GBS-963  was found to be highly promising and best suited for the Northern Transitional zone of Karnataka.
