Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad on black clayey soil during kharif 2005 to study the integrated nitrogen management in maize under rainfed condition. Application of sunhemp green manure + poultry manure + 100 per cent RDN (GM2O3N2) recorded higher grain and stover yield (63.1 q/ha and 106.1 q/ha, respectively) over rest of the treatment combinations and standard check except same combination with 75 per cent RDN. Similar effect was found for growth and yield components like leaf area (LA), leaf area index (LAI), total dry matter accumulation (TDMA) per plant, 100-grain weight and grain yield per plant. The maximum uptake of N, P and K by maize crop (241.1, 35.2 and 234.2 kg/ha, respectively) was also recorded with GM2O3N2 over rest of treatment combinations. However, the higher values of infiltration rate (4.11 cm/hr) and decreased values of bulk density (1.16 Mg/m3) were recorded in sunhemp green manure + FYM  @ 4.9 t/ha + 100 per cent RDN (GM2O1N2) compared to other treatment combinations and standard check. Maximum net returns (Rs. 31,269/ha) and B:C ratio (3.60) were also realized with sunhemp green manuring and poultry manure with 100 per cent RDN application compared to rest of the treatment combinations.
