Abstract

An investigation to evaluate the influence of system of rice intensification (SRI) on seed yield and quality in rice Cv. ES-18 was conducted at Agricultural Research Station (Paddy), Sirsi during rabi 2004-05. SRI method of cultivation, application of FYM and RDF significantly increased the number of tillers. The treatment combinations with SRI method showed more number of productive tillers.  Under SRI method, the days to 50 per cent flowering and maturity were four to five days earlier compared to traditional method. SRI method produced significantly higher (2.88 t ha-1) seed yield over traditional method. Benefit –cost ratio was significantly superior over  traditional method in all the treatments. Although germination did not show significant variation among the methods of cultivation, vigour index recorded significantly higher values in SRI method. The application of FYM and RDF under SRI cultivation produced seeds with better quality.
