Abstract
Soils in Lingnahalli microwatershed under Amani Shivpurkere watershed, Doddaballapur taluk, Bangalore Rural District, Kamataka, were studied for their properties and classification. Surface soil texture ranged from sandy, sandy loam, sandy clay loam to loamy sand. Bulk density of pedons of upper horizon ranged from 1.20 to 1.75 Mg m-3. The pH of surface soils ranged from 5.0 to 7.3 i.e., acidic to neutral, EC trom 0.20 to 1.23 dS m. Soils are very low to medium in organic carbon i.e., ranging trom 1.2 to 6.0 glkg and CEC ftom 1.0 to 11.8 c mol kg-1 at surface layer. The exchangeable bases like Ca, Mg, K and Na in surface soil ranged from 0.7 to 10.6,0.2 to 1.4,0.2 to 0.3 and 0.1 to 0.3 c mol kg-1 respectively. The OC, p EC, CEC and exchangeable bases did not follow a regular trend with depth. Most of the soils in the study area were free from major constraints and suitable for major adopted crops of the region.
