Profile of Agriculture Scientists and Organizational Factors of the University

Abstract


The present study conducted during 2004-05 involving 130 Scientists of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad in Karnataka who had put in at least 10 years of service revealed that half of the teachers, (50,90 per cent), researchers (42.85 per cent) and  majority of the  extension workers (71.40 per cent) belonged to low,  low and medium education categories,  respectively. Whereas, considerable number of teachers (53.73 per cent) 42.86 per cent of the researchers and most of the extension workers (95.24 per cent) belonged to medium experience category. Further, it was noticed that very high per cent of researchers (80.95per cent), majority of teachers (74.62 per cent) and extension workers (66.67 per cent) belonged to medium organizational climate category. Most of the extension workers (80.95 per cent), majority of the researchers (76.60 per cent) and considerable high percent of teachers (53.73 per cent) were in the medium organizational commitment category. Majority of the researchers (76.19 per cent) and extension workers (66.67 per cent) and considerable 46.27 per cent of teachers belonged to medium level of job autonomy categories, respectively. Majority of the teachers, researchers and extension workers (86.57 per cent, 76.19 per cent and 74.63 per cent,) belonged to medium level of task identity category. Similar trend was seen with reference to achievement motivation wherein 67.16, 71.42 and 66.67 per cent of teachers, researchers and extension workers, respectively belonged to medium category of achievement motivation.
