Usha Malagi, Rama K. Naik, Nirmala Yenagi

Abstract

The impact of diet and education was studied in 26 type-2 diabetics.  The interventions were given in the form of diet modification alone (I) for individual subjects, education alone (II) in the form of individual, group, family and spouse education, combination of diet modification and education (III) with 6-7 subjects in each group. The period of intervention was for six months.  Control group was not given any intervention (IV).  Diet modification for six months was most effective in terms of glycemic control, reduction in lipids, increase in HDL-C, weight reduction, diabetes practices and control of diabetic complications, followed by education (II) and combination of the two interventions (III).
