Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during  kharif 2006 and 2007 at Agricultural Research Station, Bailhongal of Belgaum district (Northern Transitional Zone-8) to ascertain the peak period of stigma receptivity of seed parent (VN-2) and time of pollination in hybrid seed production of chilli hybrid HCH-9646. The pooled data indicated that the pollination at 9.00 am to 12.00 noon one day after emasculation exhibited higher fruit set (53.63%), fruit weight per plant (59.46 g), fruit length  (13.33 cm), fruit girth (0.99 cm), seed weight per fruit (0.30 g), number of hybrid seeds per fruit (57.30), hybrid seed yield per plant (7.08 g), 100 seed weight (0.57g) and seed quality parameters such as germination (88.20%), seedling vigour index (1534) and field emergence (85.55%) as compared to either earlier or later day of emasculation and pollination.
