Evaluation of suitable substrates for on farm production of antagonist Trichoderma harzianum

T. Pramod Kumar, M.G. Palakshappa

Abstract

Among the substrates evaluated significantly higher population cfu (x106) g-1 was obtained in molasses yeast medium followed by broken sorghum grains, whole sorghum grains and broken maize grains. Significantly highest population of Trichoderma harzianum was recorded in molasses yeast medium both at 15 and 30 days. Which were on par with broken sorghum and maize grains at 15 days of incubation. However, in coconut coir and Paddy straw increased population was recorded at 30 days. In polyethylene bag significantly higher population was noticed in broken sorghum and maize grains. Among the organic substrates in solid culture the maximum growth was recorded in sterilized local  cowdung ,Jersey cowdung and butter milk and were on par with each other. In organic liquid substrates the maximum dry mycelia weight of T. harzianum was obtained in sterilized butter milk and significant over others. The growth of Trichoderma harzianum compleately inhibited in local cowdung(unsterilized),Jersey cowdung(unsterilized), local cow urine, Jersey cow urine vermiwash (both sterilized and unsterlized). However sterilized local and Jersey cowdung supported the growth of Trichoderma harzianum.
