Combining ability for earliness and productivity in sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

Chandrakant Kamble, Ravindra Mulge, B. Madalageri

Abstract

The combing ability analysis involving 15 lines and three testers was carried out for nine characters in Capsicum. The variances due to SCA and GCA  showed the non-additive gene action  was predominant though the additive component was also significant. Among the parents, KCP05 and KCP13 were good general combiners for plant height (2.19, 2.77), per cent fruit set (13.56, 4.11), fruit polar diameter (0.50, 0.83), number of fruits per plant (8.53, 6.08) and total yield per plant (66.67, 104.99). The cross KCP01 X BL exhibited significant sca effects for plant height (5.89) and total yield per plant (61.44) and the cross KCP12 X CW also exhibited significant sca effects for days to 50 per cent flowering (-5.00) and total yield per plant (59.30).
