Nutritional status of basket-ball players of Dharwad city

Abstract
The study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of 32 basket-ball players of Dharwad city. Nutritional status was assessed using anthropometric measurements, bio-chemical parameters level and diet survey. The results revealed that more than 60 per cent of the athletes were in normal category and 6 per cent were under obese I group, the mean heamoglobin level of the sample was 13.88g/100ml. The per cent adequacy for various food groups was also analyzed and it was observed that the highest adequacy was for pulses (197.2%), fats and oils (180%), sugars; and lowest was for green leafy vegetables and other vegetables (41.81%). The results of diet survey signify that potassium, folic acid and zinc had highest per cent adequacy (7.23%) and adequacy was lowest for iron and niacin.
