Abstract

Anthracnose of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici (Sydow) Butler and Bisby is an economically important disease of chilli affecting both fruit and seed quality. Chilli seed samples collected from different chilli growing districts of northern Karnataka revealed fungi viz., Colletotrichum capsici, species of  Cercospora, Alternaria, Penicillium and  Aspergillus. Colletotrichum capsici were the most predominant fungi encountered (71.24%). Seed samples collected from Haveri district showed maximum infection of Colletotrichum capsici. Among the different seed health testing methods tested, Standard Blotter Method was found to be most efficient for the quick and accurate diagnosis of Colletotrichum capsici.
