Abstract

Building up a national invasive alien species strategy, institutional support, social marketing strategies for engaging communities in invasive species management, building a partnership task force, monitoring and evaluation, protection of animal, plant and human health against alien pests is to be implemented effectively. The management option for a variety of insect invasives is provided with examples. Small and rapidly multiplying insects like aphids can be very dangerous and difficult to manage. An All India Invasive Species Network (AIISN) should be established to identify efficient and effective methods for preventing new incursions through implementing effective quarantine measures and enhance capacity and capability for early detection and rapid response to mitigate the impacts of invasives in the Indian sub-continent. India should make use of the rapid developments in the science of invasive biology, as well as growing technologies for detecting unintentionally introduced invaders and managing established invasive species, so long as the public and policy makers are aware of them.
