Effectiveness of insecticides against blue gum chalcid, Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), infesting eucalyptus seedlings in middle Gujarat, India

Abstract


The results of the experiment conducted in completely randomized design with 17 treatments (Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Imidacloprid @ 0.008%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Thiomethoxam @ 0.0125%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Clothianidin @ 0.025%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Triazophos @ 0.08%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Acephate @ 0.075%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Dimethoate @ 0.03%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Methyl-o-demeton @ 0.025%, Carbofuran 3G @ 1 g /plant + Phosphamidon @ 0.04%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Imidacloprid @ 0.008%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Thiomethoxam @ 0.0125%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Clothianidin @ 0.025%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Triazophos @ 0.08%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Acephate @ 0.075%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Dimethoate @ 0.03%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Methyl-o-demeton @ 0.025%, Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant + Phosphamidon @ 0.04% and control) and 3 repetitions during May to August, 2009 in eucalyptus nursery to evaluate effectiveness of insecticides against invasive gall inducer (blue gum chalcid), Leptocybe invasa Fisher & LaSalle revealed that application of Carbofuran 3G or Phorate 10G @ 1 g /plant in the soil 45 days after transferring the seedlings to polyethylene bag followed by spray application of dimethoate @ 0.03% or Phosphamidon @ 0.04% or Methyl-o-demeton @ 0.025% or Acephate @ 0.075% at 15 days interval starting after one month of granular application could be the effective strategy to check the infestation by the pest in eucalyptus nursery.
