Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the kharif season of 2001 at Dharwad, to study the effect of intercrops and row proportions on growth and yield of pigeonpea. Growing of pigeonpea as sole crop recorded higher grain yield (1495 kg ha-1) over pigeonpea in intercropping system. Among the cropping systems, intercropping of  groundnut and French bean with pigeonpea resulted in maximum pigeonpea equivalent yield (2406 kg ha-1) and 2932 kg ha-1) net returns (Rs.23,793 ha-1 and Rs.23,039 ha-1) and B:C ratio (2.89 and 2.99, respectively) over other intercropping system and sole pigeonpea. The row proportion of either 1:2 or 1:3 did not influence the growth and yield of pigeonpea.
