Performance of Milch Breeds - A Comparative Study of the Principal Components and Factor Loadings

Abstract


The study conducted in North Karnataka revealed that 15 indicators having a close association with the performance of different milk producing groups were identified and analysed.  Among them local cow and cross bred cow number, buffalo number, total animals, dry and green fodder, education level of the farmer, grazing land, grazing quality as well as area under fodder were the key variables in the overall performance of dairy groups which explained about 88.80% of the total variation in milk production of which 29.20 per cent was explained by the first component, 24. 10 per cent by the second component, 16.30 per cent by third, 10.80 per cent by fourth & 8.30 per cent by fifth component.
