Impact of Integrated Child Development Services on Cognitive Abilities of Rural Pre-School Children

Abstract
The present study aims at investigating the impact of ICDS on cognitive abilities of preschoolers by comparing those who were attending anganwadi regularly with those who were irregular. A sample of 80 children each attending ICDS and not attending ICDS or irregular were selected from 4 selected from 4 selected villages of Dharwad taluk. The two groups were matched on age, gender and socio- economic status. Pandey’s (1992) scale of cognitive development was used to measure the cognitive abilities of preschoolers. Results showed that cognitive abilities of preschoolers who availed the ICDS package services was significantly better than that of non-ICDS group.
