K.C. Veeranna, D.P. Singh

Abstract

A study conducted in Bidar district of Karnataka indicated that the average family size was about 7 persons. and sex ratio of the total sample households was in favour of men.  Most of the crop production activities were performed by men, whereas women members played a dominant role in dairy production activities. Women were the prime decision makers in dairy production activities such as utilization of milk, care of pregnant animals and calves, brining of fodder and feeding of concentrate.  Thus, women played a crucial and dominant role in dairy production activities.  Therefore, efforts should be made to improve dairy production by organizing skill oriented training programmes for women in scientific dairy production practices.
