Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the kharif season of 2001 at Dharwad, to study the effect of intercrops and row proportions on yield and yield parameters of pigeonpea. Growing of pigeonpea as sole crop recorded higher grain yield (1495 kg ha-1), stalk yield (3530 kg ha-1) and harvest index (29.51%) over pigeonpea in intercropping system. Among the cropping systems, groundnut and French bean as intercrops with pigeonpea resulted in maximum pigeonpea equivalent yield (2406 kg ha-1 and 2932 kg ha-1), net returns (Rs. 23793 ha-1 and Rs. 23039 ha-1) and B:C ratio (2.89 and 2.99 respectively) over other intercropping systems and sole pigeonpea. The row proportion of either 1:2 or 1:3 did not influence the yield and yield parameters of pigeonpea.
