Use of Drum Seeder and Transplanter for Increasing Rice Profitability

K. Manjappa, N.G. Kataraki

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in hill zone of Kamataka to evaluate the different methods of rice cultivation. The results indicated that the maximum grain yield was recorded with machine planting (7432kg ha-1) followed by manual planting (7371kg ha-1) which were on par with each other. The lowest yield was obtained with broadcasting method (6261kg ha-1) drum seeding. Similar trend was also noticed for straw yield. The highest gross returns were realized with machine planting (Rs.51,874 ha-1) followed by manual planting (Rs. 49,971 ha-1) which were on par with each other. The lowest gross returns were obtained with broadcasting method (Rs.43,545 ha-1). Almost similar trend was also followed for net returns.
