Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Water and Land Management Institute, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during summer and kharif seasons of 2002-03 and 2003-04, respectively to study the effect of growth regulators and stages of spray on growth, fruit set and seed yield of ridgegourd. The experiment consisted of 12 treatment combinations involving four growth regulators viz., GA3 50 ppm, Ether 500 ppm, NAA 100 ppm and control (water spray) and three stages of spray viz., four leaf and flower initiation, flower and fruit initiation stages.  Among all the treatment combinations, spraying of GA3 @ 50 ppm at four leaf, flower and fruit initiation stage significantly improved the vine length. Maximum number of branches per vine were recorded with spraying of ethrel 500 ppm at four leaf, flower and fruit  initiation stage followed by spraying at four leaf and flower  initiation stage in both the seasons.  Maximum vine length and no. of branches recorded with GA3 50 ppm at four leaf, flower and fruit initiation stage.
