Five years data of 290 HF X Deoni cross-bred calves maintained at Main Research Station, Dairy unit, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, was used to know the effect of season and sex on birth rate and mortality of calves. Births of male calves (51.38 %) were more compared to female (48.62%), calvings were more in winter (40.00%) followed by summer (32.41% ) and rainy season (27.59 %). Deaths of calves during rainy season (39.13 %) were more compared to winter (36.23 %) and summer (24.64 %) seasons. Deaths due to pneumonia (28.98 %) was more compared to other causative agents.
