S.S. Nyamagouda, S.S. Angadi

Abstract

A  field  trial was conducted to study the effect of seed proportion mixtures of maize and legumes viz,, ‘t’ cowpea, horsegram and fieldbean on yield of forage maize-legume mixed cropping system at the Main Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during kharif 1999.The studies indicated that maize African Tall when mixed wfth fieldbean in 100:50 proportion resulted in significant increase in the mixed green forage Yield (73.43 t/ha) and dry matter yield (14.47 t/ha). The forage yields of maize were significantly decreased by mixing with legumes at higher seed Proportions (100:100), as their growth was suppressed. Whereas, legumes growth was suppressed when mixed with maize at lower seed proportions (100:25) by the vigorous growth of maize African Tall
