Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the rainy seasons of 1998-99 end 1999- 2000 on medium black soils at Agricultural Research Station, Bailhongal under rainfed conditions to identify promising horsegram cultivar for the Northern Transitional Zone of Karnataka state. Significanty higher yields were recorded with the cultivars Pandrapur Local (723 kg/ha) and GPM-6 (701 kg/ha) to the extent of 37.9 per cent and 35.9 percent respectively over the check variety BGM-1 (449 kg/ha). Horsegram cultivar Pandrapur Local also recorded highest fodder yield of 13.6 q/ha than the check BGM-1 (10.7q/ha). Thus, Pandrapur Local was found to be highly promising and best suited for the Northern Transitional zone of Karnataka.
