B.K. Desai, A.S. Prabhakar

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted under irrigated red sandy clay loam soils of Regional Research Station, Raichur(16 0 15 1N and 77 0 201E) during(1994-96) to study the effect of proximity of S.grandiflora hedge raws on associated crop yields. S. grandyflora  seeds were raised as hedge rows at 50 cm x 20 cm spacing, leaving 10 m alley. Field crops maize in kharif and groundnut in rabi /summer were grown in alleys and the affect was studied. The results Indicated that during kharif 1995 the maize yield reduction was to the tune of 16.59 per cent compared to sole maize, whereas during rabi /summer 1995-96 the yield reduction was 13.76 per cent. The yields of annual crops reduced significantly more nearer to the tree line compared to farther away from tree line.
