Abstract

A field investigation was carried out a Hebbal, MRS, Bangalore, Karnataka on sandy loam soils during summer season of 1998 to study the effect of soil solarization on weed control and its aftermath effect on yield and yield components of tomato. The extent of rise in soil temperature ranged from 8.0 0C to 120C at 5Cm soil depth and 7.20C to 11.60 C at 10cm soil depth due to TPE 0.05mm during April. The weed control efficiency above 8O per cent was maintained till harvest and the highest yield of 21.61 ha-1 was obtained by TPE 0.05mm during April. The effectiveness of soil solarization was in the order of TPE 0.05mm > 0. 1 mm and April = March >May.
