Balachandra K. Naik, K.N.R. Sastry

Abstract

The study was undertaken in uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state. Cluster analysis technique was employed to delineate the hoblis of the district into different agro-climatic regions based on 30 different characteristics. This delineation of the district is more clear as compared to NARP classification which considered taluka as unit of reference, Farming systems will suffer at administrative level if technologies delivered to the farmers are not suitable to their farming conditions. Precision in research in agriculture could be much accurate and extension recommendations would be much successful as one moves from macro level to the micro level approaches for classification.
