Effect of Pre-Curing and Storage of Scion Sticks on the Success and Growth of Softwood Grafts in Sapota (Cv. Kalipatti)

Y. Pampanna, G.S. Sulikeri

Abstract

An experiment conducted to findout the effect of pre-defoliation and storage of scion sticks on the success and growth of softwood grafts in sapota (cv. Kalipatti) reveled that, treatment consisting of 10 days prior defoliation combined with fresh scions (without storage) required the minimum number of days for sprouting (29.67).The initial and final success was maximum (93.33 and 80.00%, respectively) with 10 days prior defoliation combined with either fresh scion (without storage) however, the initial success was maximum even though scion was stored for three days after detachment when defoliated 10 days before its removal from the parent plant. The height of scion shoot and the number of leaves on scion shoot were maximum in case of 10 days prior defoliation combined with fresh scion (17.30 cm and 18.25 leaves/graft, respectively).
