Abstract

Effect of ethrel (200 ppm or 400 ppm) and Gibberellic acid (5ppm or 10 ppm) on numbetr of female flowers,Male flowers, total fruit yield and quality of cucumber varities viz., Poinscttee and Belgaum local was studied.Etherel treatment was found effective in increasing the number of pistillate flowers, number of fruits per plant and yield per hectare. Gibberellic acid with its increased concentration decreased the number of female flowers, decreased the number of fruits per plant, yield per hectare and increased the size of individual fruits. With the increased concentration of ethrel the contents of Ascorbic acid. reducing sugar and total sugar contents increased but in case of Gibberellic acid both Ascorbic acid and total sugars increased white reducing sugar content was decreased.
