Field experiments were conducted at Anajuru, Mudigere taluk during 1997 - 98 to study the main and residual effect of compacted and non-compacted P fertilizers in Rice - Cowpea cropping sequence. Rice crop was grown as the main crop and cowpea was raised on residual P. The rice yield, obtained with the application of phosphatic fertilizer (75 kg P₂0₅/ha) through water soluble SSP and MAP were comparable. Among non-compacted sources, JPR(A) and compacted sources, JPR(A) + MAP + S recorded higher yield both in main and residual study compared to other P fertilizers. However, the P uptake and availability was maximum with application of Gafsaphos. Further, compacted fertilizers had a better residual effect compared to rest of the treatments.
