Abstract

A field experiment conducted at the Main Centre for Cropping System Research Station, Sirguppa, Karnataka during 1990-91 to 1994-95 with seven different rice based cropping sequences revealed that among the different crop sequences rice after rice sequence gave the highest net returns of Rs.33,699.35 per hectare followed by rice-sesamum, rice-wheat, rice-sunflower, rice-mustard, rice-maize and lastly rice-bengalgram. But benefit cost ratio analysis showed that rice with seasamum was found to be better followed by rice with, rice and wheat. In terms of sustainable value index also the similar trend was noticed with lower value of index of variability. Hence rice-sesamum crop sequence best suited.
