S.V. Hosamani, B.K. Pugashetty, N.A. Patil

Abstract

Fourteen UAS lambs of about 5 months old and weighing around 13 kg were randomly distributed into 2 groups of 7 each. All the lambs were allowed for grazing. Only treatment group was supplemented with ad-libitum rain tree pods. Total and daily gain in body weight were significantly (P<0.05) higher in treatment group than control. Age at first lambing was significantly (P<0.05) reduced in treatment group over control. Wool yield was significantly (P<0.05) increased due to pods feeding. It could be concluded that instead of wasting rain tree pods, if they are collected and fed to grazing sheep throughout the year not only improves their performance but also the cost of feeding by saving concentrates.
