Response of Stylosanthes and Natural Pasture to Fertilizer

S.S. Angadi, M.M. Hosmani

Abstract

Afield experiment was conducted during 1995 and 1996 at Kumbapur farm, UAS, Dharwad, to know the response of Stylosanthes species to fertilizer under natural pasture conditions. The results revealed that, dry forage yield of mixture (grass + legume) differed significantly in both the years. Natural pasture with S. scabra at 60 kg P2O5 per ha, recorded higher dry forage yield of mixture (3.925 t/ha) than other treatment combinations, which was on par with S. hamata association (3.882 t/ha) at the same level of fertilizer. Similar trend was noticed in II cut. However, between species tried, S. hamata can be preferred over S. scabra due to its leafyness.
