Reactions to Frustration - A Longitudinal Study of the College Students

Abstract


The longitudinal study of four years explored the developmental pattern of reactions' to frustration during graduation among the students of agricultural sciences. Initially, the sample was consisted of 50 students, who were average and above average in their Intelligence and English Language. Frustration Test was administered on the subjects before their first and fourth year's final examination and also after the announcement of their second and third year's results by deleting the subjects who had traumatic experience during their graduation. The data of 20 subjects were subjected to mean, S.D. and Paired t-va!ue analyses. The results revealed that initially the students expressed high level of aggression, regression, fixation and resignation reactions, but as they were more exposed to realities and become experienced in the trimester system of education, their aggression and resignation reactions were decreased significantly; and they were also able to inhibit regression and fixation reactions in the developmental process of behaviour.
