Developmental Activities in the Bettalands of Uttara Kannada District, Karnataka

Abstract


A field experiment was carried out on developmental activities adopted by different categories of bettaland holders in the Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka district, Karnataka during 2001-02 revealed that 37.5 per cent  to 75 per cent of the medium land holding farmers have planted different seedling in their bettalands and about 25 to 50 per cent planting was done by the small farmers, whereas 37.5 to 62 per cent was done by the large land holding. The practice of setting fire to the bettaland was maximum (62.5) with the medium farmers in both moist deciduous and evergreen vegetation conditions, whereas it was minimum (37.7%) with the small bettaland holders.
