Abstract

The F2 populations of two crosses of greengram viz., CM x ML-3 and CM x PB were advanced by following single pod descent (SPD), bulk and individual plant selection (IPS) methods.  These breeding methods were compared for their relative efficiency in terms of maintaining higher variability and also in obtaining transgressive segregants for yield and its components. The SPD method proved to be superior to bulk and IPS methods in exhibiting higher variability and also in producing higher frequency of transgressive segregants for yield and its components, whereas the IPS method produced lower number of transgressive segregants.
