Abstract

Studies were undertaken in the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore with the seeds of maize cv.  CO 1 to standardize the optimum dosage of seed coating polymer (polykote), to formulate a suitable seed film coating technology.  Combining various seed treating chemicals including seed protectants and nutrients to increase the growth and productivity.  Under laboratory evaluation, slurry coating of seeds with seed film coating polymer (polykote)  @ 3 g, carbendazim @ 2g, imidacloprid @ 1 ml, DAP @ 30g and micronutrient mixture @ 19.7g per kg of seed recorded higher germination and enhanced seedling growth when compared to control.  The field emergence, chlorophyll content, plant height, leaf area and dry matter content were also high in seeds film coated as slurry coating with polykote @ 3 g, carbendazim @ 2 g, imidacloprid @ 1 ml, DAP @  30g and micronutrient mixture @ 19.7 g than the control.  The entire yield attributing characters and seed yield also exhibited the significant superiority of seeds treated with the above mentioned film coating with an increment of 13.2 per cent seed yield over the control.
