Abstract

Field experiment was conducted during kharif from 1993-94 to 1995-96 to evaluate the performance of small millets under inter cropping systems with pigeonpea (ICPL-8863) at Agricultural Research Station, Hanummanamatti. The small millets used were finger millet, foxtail millet and little millet. The pigeonpea genotype used was wilt resistant. Under intercropping system, the three rows proportions used were 3:1, 4:2 and 5:1, in respect of millet-pigeonpea. The recommended dose of fertilizers were applied to all the crops. Growing of finger millet + pigeonpea millet + pigeonpea in the row ratio of 4:2 (8.59 + 4.02 q/ha), foxtail millet + pigeonpea with 4:2 ratio (6,13 + 5.33 q/ha) and little millet + pigeonpea ratio (5.68 + 5.49 q/ha) were found significantly supeiror over the incropping systems row ratios. The highest net return (Rs.7,285) and B:C ratio (4.29) was recorded in the intercropping of ragi + pigeonpea (4:2).
