Abstract
Experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of protein sources (fish meal, soybean and casein), protein (30, 35 and 40%) and lipid (5, 10 and 15%) levels in the diet, starvation period (5, 10 and 15 days) and feeding frequency (1 meal/day, 2 meals/day and 3 meals/day) on gastric evacuation time in rohu, Labeo rohita fingerlings. Casein based diet evacuated at faster rate compared to soybean and fish meal based diets. The food passage time varied between 9.43 hr and 10.37 hr for different protein levels in the feed. The GER (gastric evacuation rate) decreased as lipid level increased and vice versa in case of feeding frequency. However, there was no significant effect of starvation period on evacuation rate.
