Abstract

Studies on flowering phenology, time of anther dehiscence and phenotypic variability for floral traits viz., inflorescence length, floral buds/inflorescence and blooming pattern was made in Tamarindus indica L. Flowering was seen between last week of March to fortnight of June. Anther dehiscence was between 9.00 to 11.00 am. Inflorescence length, floral buds/inflorescence and floral dry weight had high Cv. Majority of trees (64 per cent) were found to bloom one floral bud, at ranodm, on every alternate day while 33 per cent trees has a regular blooming of at least one floral bud per day and only two trees (3.18 per cent) were found to bloom more than one floral bud per day. It requires 25 days for completion of blooming of buds in any inflorescence. The results have been discussed in the light of plant pollinator interaction.
