Abstract

A sample of 455 infants and mothers of infants was drawn equally by age and gender from five research centers of State Agricultural Universities viz., for the study on comprehensive child care through farm creche. Impact of intervention was studied through pre-post control and experimental design. The study adopted a semi longitudinal approach of assessing the growth and development of infants of different age groups and followed up the observations and intervention till the infants were 30 months with final testing of infants at 36 months of age. The maternal intervention was given with the help of five developed educational packages. The results revealed that in all seven components of maternal knowledge viz., Pregnancy, Nursing, Infant care, Nutrition, Health, Growth and Behavior, an increase was observed at post- test. The gain in knowledge was significantly higher in case of experimental group in comparison with control group.  Gender differences existed in few components in one or the other centers at pre test indicating that differential treatment prior to intervention was overcome due to intervention.
