S.B. Gurumurthy, M.N. Sreenivasa

Abstract

An investigation was carried out to screen and select an efficient VAM fungus that improves growth, nutrition and dry matter production of teak in unsterile soil. Different VAM fungi tried in this investigation were Glomus fasciculatum. Gigaspora margarita. Acaulospora laevis. Sclerocystisdussii. Local isolate-1 and Local isolate-2. Per cent root colonization, mycorrhizal spore counts, population of free living N2-fixersand P-solubilizers were found to be significantly highest in the rhizosphereofteak plants inoculated with Sclerocystis dussii as compared to other VAM fungi tried. A matching trend was observed in plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, root length, shoot dry weight, root dry weight and the concentrations of P. Zn, Cu, Mn and Fein shoot which were significantly highest in plants inoculated with S. dussii.
