Combining Ability Analysis in Interspecific Hybrids of Forage Sorghum

C. Vasantha Kumar, S. Vijayakumar

Abstract

The study of combining ability for eleven traits in interspecific hybrids between sorghum and Sudan grass was carried out using line X tester analysis. There was predominance of sea variance for all the characters studied except leaf area and number of nodes. Parents, ICSA 101 and ICSR 93014 were found to be good general combiners for most of the character studied. The best crosses resulted in the present study (ICSA 101x SSG 59-3 and ICSA 75 L SSG 59-3) had parents with high gca effects. Thus, selection can be practiced in the segregating population to isolate superior geno types.
