Abstract

Studies were conducted to know the influence of plant growth regulators on rooting and bio-chemical composition of tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) air-layers. The shoots treated with IBA 2500 ppm recorded the highest, rooting percentage (86.67), number of roots (33.67), length of roots (36.23 mm), reducing sugars (0.41), non-reducing sugars (0.73), total sugars (1.14) and total nitrogen (0.738, per cent) followed by IBA + NAA 2500 ppm (rooting, reducing, non-reducing, total sugars, total nitrogen (per cent) and IBA 1250 ppm (number of roots and length of roots). However, the starch content (12.16) and C:N ratio (18.02) were least in air-layers treated with IBA 2500 ppm.
