Response of Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana Gaertn.) Genotypes to Time of Sowing In Northern Transitional Tract of Karnataka

Ashoka M.B., Halikatti S.I.

Abstract

Four finger millet genotypes (GPU-26, VL-149, PR-202 and lndaf-8) were evaluated under four fortnightly sowing dates in June-July on sandy loam soils of Kumbapur Farm, adjacent to University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The earliest June first fortnight sowing recorded significantly higher grain yield(32.08q ha-1 which decreased with delayed sowings. Among the genotypes, the pre-released genotype GPU-26 recorded significantly higher grain yield (30.06 q ha-1) followed by VL-149 (27.49 q ha-1) lndaf-8 (24.20 q ha-1) and PR-202 (23.04 q ha-1). The higher yield in the earliest sowing and GPU-26 was due to higher values of many growth and yield components.
