Response of Rabi Sorghum to Tillage Practices and Nitrogen Levels in Deep Black Soil Under Dryland Conditions

V.S. Surakod, C.J. Itnal

Abstract

Field investigations on the response of rabi sorghum to tillage practices and application of different levels of nitrogen in deep black soils under dryland conditions revealed higher storage of soil moisture in deep tilled plots. Significantly higher grain yield was registered in deep tilled plots with an application of 75 kg nitrogen per ha which was however on par with that of application of 50 kg N/ha. Yield increase was due to higher soil moisture and increased yield components viz., ear length, ear girth, number of grains per ear and grain weight per plant.
