Role of Rural Women in Poultry Enterprise

Abstract


An investigation conducted to study the socio-economic characteristics, participation, time spent pattern and decision making pattern of rural women involved in poultry in the year 2003-04, from 30 rural women involved in poultry enterprise, revealed that participation of the respondents was found to be more in regular activities, followed by health activities and marketing activities. Maximum number of mandays were spent on regular activities, followed by marketing activities and health activities. The activities like care of birds, fixing the price of produce where to sell the produce, were solely decided by wife alone. In none of the activities, husband dominated the decision making process, while joint decisions were more common in selling the produce and deciding the number of birds to rear.
