Composition of Selected Street Foods Sold in Dharwad City

Abstract


From the surveyed list of street foods vended in Dharwad city during the year 1994-95, five popular street foods namely Chigali, Chikki, Dry Rasgulla, Bhaji and Milk Lolly procured from the vendors in the viscinity of cinema halls and schools were analysed for proximate principles. The food samples differed significantly with respect to moisture, protein, fat, ash, and energy content except for carbohydrate in Chikki and Dry Rasguila. The per rupee availability of nutrients were highest in Chikki, Dry Rasgulla and Bhaji than in Chigali and Milk Lolly.
