A Study of Parenting Style as Perceived by Children

Abstract


The present study was an attempt to investigate the perception of children regarding parenting, style of both father and mother. The sample consisted of 198 high school students from Dharwad city The results showed that children felt that their mothers were more protecting and loving, whereas, fathers were more demanding, indifferent and neglecting. Further, the analysis of parenting style according to the gender of the child revealed that there was no significant difference in perception of boys and girls towards the father's behaviour. However, boys perceived their mothers as more demanding and indifferent compared to girls.
