Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural College Farm, Dharwad during summer 1992 with a view to study the effect of population levels on stalk and sugar yield and quality characters in four sweet sorghum genotypes. Genotype Rio was found to be superior followed by SSV-84 for millable stalk yield, sugar yield, extractable juice percent and brix value. Sugar content in stem was maximum at physiological maturity in all the genotypes and quality of juice was superior at this stage. Millable stalk yield increased with an increase in population level from 2.2 to 6.6 lakh plants per hectare.
